Supporting your baby’s brain and visual development
Just as listening to Mozart’s highly complex and structured compositions stimulates your baby’s brain, studying visually harmonious and symmetrically beautiful pictures will greatly benefit your baby’s brain development and calm your baby.
Within their first year, newborns actively rely on their visual perception to learn about the world. Babies are fascinated by patterns and actively seek them out.
The brain of an infant grows neural networks fastest in the first year and if babies do not use these new connections, they will disappear.
Our black and white books and mobile apps for babies are based on current scientific findings on newborns’ and infants’ visual perception and brain development. The images within our books and apps help:

About the Author
Dr Iya Whiteley
Dr Iya Whiteley is a Space Psychologist and Cognitive Engineer. Trained as a Clinical Psychologist and Human Machine Interface designer, she designs both equipment and training programmes to improve the performance of highly trained professionals, including military pilots, astronauts, cosmonauts and surgeons.
Iya worked at the European Astronaut Centre (European Space Agency) in Cologne, Germany and collaborates with NASA and the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Star City, Russia.
Since having her own children, Iya now also designs visual books for babies to tap into their developmental potential and gives them the best possible start on our unique planet Earth.
Iya is a public speaker for TV, radio and science programmes. Recently, she was the Space Psychologist demonstrating astronaut selection on the BBC Science TV series: BBC Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes? with Canadian Astronaut and ISS Commander Chris Hadfield and Dr Kevin Fong.
